We need to give ourselves permission to PLAY.
This is what started Kelly Schlenker Creative. Having come from an innately creative place in childhood, and all through Junior High, I always loved color, and messing about with paint, crayons, ink pens, whatever I could get my hands on to make or create pictures, and works of art. It was truly my Happy Place. Suddenly Senior High School started, and in the blink of an eye - there was no longer space for Creating. After all “you can’t possibly make a living at that”. It was all about beginning the University Track to become a money making, contributing member of Adult Society.
After many years of “Adulting”, and being that Responsible Adult my emotional life hit the wall with the onset of mid life, and all the fun that comes with that (no sleep, hot flashes, heightened anxiety, depression, wondering what the hell happened - and trying to have a sense of humor about the new normal) and I picked up a paint brush, and 2 whimsical, High Society Bunnies were birthed out of the craziness that was Life.
Being a Highly Sensitive Person, I feel all the feelings on a cellular level. This can be exhausting. Taking time to create has been a calming, and therapeutic part of my journey. My saving Grace has been my Sennelier Paints, my brushes, my ink pens, and the paper that holds both the water in my creations, and my creative Soul. A good deal of my creative spark comes from the works of Beatrix Potter, who was one of my favourite authors as a child. I also enjoy landscapes, and find that I am learning as I go.
I have long avoided doing a Facebook “Business Page”, but decided that I would like to start sharing my work, my process, and the Joy that creating brings me with others. My hope is that you too, fellow Creatives, New start artists, anyone who has a story to tell with your Art, anyone who wants to pick up a paintbrush but thinks they will not be any good: I hope you will share your work with me, and we can find a community that brings Inspiration, Joy, and a Beauty to this World which is steeped in negativity. We need something beautiful to land our eyes on. This is why I do what I do. May you be stirred, encouraged to create, and just enjoy what you see, and know that you are ENOUGH.
